FRI 15 & SAT 16 MAY | MCHUGH’S BAR | 8PM, £10 + BF BOOK HERE
Two shows back-to-back with Robocobra Quartet in the intimate McHughs’ Basement in Belfast on Friday 15 May and Saturday 16 May 2020. Brand new songs, deep cuts, guest performances, different lineups & different sets at both shows. Support acts and DJ sets from friends of the band to be announced.
Comprising two saxophonists, a bass guitarist and a drummer-vocalist, Robocobra Quartet’s unmatched live performances channel-hop from moments of joy and playfulness to periods of intense fury, earning them invitations to festivals across the world including Latitude Festival (UK), Montreux Jazz Festival (CH), SXSW (USA) and Inversia Festival (RU).
Their self-produced Northern Ireland Music Prize-nominated album ‘Plays Hard To Get’ pulls you like a rag doll through its nine tracks of improvisation-soaked post-punk. Featuring oblique production nods to influences as disparate as modern classical music and 60s pop, the album track ‘Short Stretch of Day’ was recently used in the HBO documentary Game of Thrones: The Last Watch.
“A cunning marriage of jazz, spoken word and punk” – The Quietus
“Fugazi meets Mingus.” – Drowned in Sound
