Ryan Young is one of the fastest rising traditional musicians from Scotland.
His fiddle playing brings a new lease of life to older and often forgotten Scottish tunes, delivering performances that are soulful, exciting and full of uplifting rhythmic drive. Ryan’s engaging and modest stage presence belies his phenomenal ability. He also takes inspiration from a number of great Irish players, notably Clare fiddlers Bobby Casey, Paddy Canny, PJ and Martin Hayes.
With a host of accolades, to date Ryan has been awarded the MG Alba Scots Trad Music Awards 2016 Up and Coming Artist of the Year, voted ‘Best Musician’ in the 2018 Folking awards as well as multiple nominations for the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Awards, the BBC Radio Scotland and in 2018 the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards. His debut album was released in 2017, produced by triple Grammy winning Jesse Lewis and shortlisted for ‘Best Album’ in MG Alba Scots Trad Music Awards.
With recent performances at Baltimore Fiddle Fair, Sidmouth Folk Festival and a sold out headline show at Celtic connections we look forward to his first performance in Belfast, accompanied by the award-winning guitarist Craig Irving (Talisk: Mànran).
