HIVE CHOIR (support)

HIVE is a new artist collective based in Belfast. Inheriting its membership and ethos from recent experimental choral projects in Belfast – Bird on a Wire and Belfast City Choir – HIVE is a testing ground for vocal improvisation and musical games.

Sam Beste (vocals, guitar) Rahel Debebe-Dessalegne (vocals, bass) Alex Reeve (lead guitar) Alexis Nunez (drums)

Heijra’s musical mix is as much a product of London (their base) as it is their collective multinational heritage of Ethiopian, Chilean, German and Hungarian.
Beautiful arrangements and stunningly delicate vocals from lead singer Rahel Debebe-Dessalegne make up the deep trademark sound of this unmissable East London music outfit. Hejira consists of 5 stellar multi-instrumentalists that switch between 2 guitars, 2 bass, 3 sets of keys, drums and electronics as well as vocals from 3 of the members.
Having worked with greats such as Amy Winehouse, Nitin Sawhney, Mathhew Herbert, and Floating Points, Hejira’s music is a remarkable brew of sounds and texture. We are delighted to welcome this incredible band to Belfast for the very first time.

“uncomplicated and beautifully arranged, balancing gorgeous vocal harmonies atop finger picked guitar melodies and bustling percussion.” Gilles Peterson

“Soulful, poetic, and yet gently groundbreaking” Clash Magazine
