On Six Days In Down, Brozman, McSherry and O'Connor explore fresh perspectives on the living tradition and the end result is fresh, passionate music that is startlingly beautiful and splashed with gentle humour. The album also features the haunting vocals of Stephanie Makem.
The album's origins date back to 2005, when Moving on Music co-ordinated a very successful tour featuring Bob Brozman. During that tour Bob mentioned that it might be an interesting collaboration and challenge for him to work with Irish traditional musicians.
The following year, Moving on Music had an opportunity to apply to the Arts Council of Northern Ireland Lottery Fund for the support of new initiatives, and the words of Bob Brozman were recalled. Consideration was then given to who Bob could potentially collaborate with and given that Moving on Music was already familiar with the talents of Dónal O'Connor and John McSherry - they seemed like obvious choices! Initial discussions between the musicians went well and it was decided to pursue the project.
In 2007, lottery funding was awarded for the project and composing/recording took place (in just six days) in Down Arts Centre, Downpatrick, in February 2008. Fast forward to 2010 and the album is now being released by World Music Netowrk's Riverboat Records label. We love it when a plan comes together!
Six Days In Down will be released by Riverboat Records/World Music Network on 27th September 2010. The album is currently available to pre-order from:
